- GRAND KNIGHT'S MESSAGE -

Brothers Knights: I hope everyone celebrated and had a wonderful Thanksgiving day. We have so much to be thankful to God as we move on to celebrate the birth of Christ. I wish all a very Merry Christmas and Peace on Earth. Additionally, I would like to thank all Brothers and family members that volunteered their time to man Aid Station #9 of the Silverman Triathlon on November 9, 2008, we worked from 11:00 a.m. to Midnight.

Brother Knights, please join me in welcoming five new brother Knights into the Order, Richard Di Gregorio, Joseph Doll, Barry Goodwin, William Terrance, and Rolly Yap. Congratulations to our new brothers.

I received word from Brother Mike Gerena, our new Recorder, that his work hours have changed dramatically and he will be unable to attend the business meetings. In view of this, he has submitted his resignation as Recorder. Regretfully I accepted his resignation and we are now looking for his replacement. This is our 30-day notice to all members wishing to run for the Office of Recorder to please contact me or any other Council Officer of your willingness to run for Recorder. We plan on holding an election for Recorder in January 2009.

At our Officers’ meeting Tuesday, November 18, 2008, we decided to pursue our interest in working the February-March NASCAR races for our fund raising activities. I asked Jesus Avila if he would be our Chairman since he and Paula were the ones who brought this idea to our Council and they have worked NASCAR in the past. Jesus accepted and asked for Allan’s assistance in planning. We are going to need everyone’s help. Key to success in this important fund raising activity is for each member’s commitment to volunteer at least one day over the three-day period beginning February 27 through March 1, 2009. If anyone has any suggestions please communicate them to Jesus or Allan. The following is a short summary of Allan’s procedural plans.

The NASCAR fundraiser at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway can be the source of funds for all our charitable efforts throughout the year. But, we need your help. The work is easy: we’ll sell program packets at several locations at the track. The commitment is clear: we need you to volunteer for one or more days. Manning is critical: we need about 50 persons each day (Knights, family members older than 16, or friends.) For this to be a successful fundraiser we need support from all Council members. The dates are February 27, February 28 and March 1, 2009. We already have a Captain for each day, including: John Rios, February 27; Jesus Avila, February 28; and Toni Pascua, March 1. They will be calling you to ask for your help. We would like to get the rosters finalized by the end of January. If you would like to help put the rosters together, or would like to volunteer for one or more days, please contact Jesus Avila at 270-2338.

Next Meeting
December 2, 2008, at 6:30 p.m., in the Our Lady of the Angels Room at the San Damiano Parish Center, 2300 Sunridge Heights Parkway in Henderson, Nevada. A short social gathering will take place prior to each business meeting. Come join us in this fraternal activity.

John Rios
Grand Knight
