Brother Knights, The City of Las Vegas, is sponsoring a parade specifically for the Vietnam Veteran, who has never had a parade to honor his/her service during that terrible divisive war.  This parade can help bring closure to those who served honorably during that horrific time frame.  All Veterans of any war are welcome to come and salute your Brother Knights and other Veterans of the Vietnam war.

Any Vietnam veteran will be allowed to march.  The Elk's Club of North Las Vegas have invited the Knights of Columbus to march with them.  The meeting place on 11 Nov 05 at 09:00 hours, will be at 4th St. and Gass.  The uniform of the day can be a Vietnam cap, Beret, or similar head covering, and a Knight's of Columbus shirt or jacket.

Keep Christ in Christmas - Posters/Billboard

I have just finished speaking to Ms. Starr Peterson of LAMAR ADVERTISING. Ms. Peterson told me that LAMAR ADVERTISING WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO HANG THE POSTER DUE TO LACK OF SITE AVAILABILITY this year. This is due to an extremely large volume of Christmas orders received during the months of July and August.

This means if you decide to order a poster from CREATIVE MEDIA in Chattanooga, TN., you will have to find your own company to hang the poster and of course pay for it yourself.

IT OFFICIAL... WE HAVE A NEW COUNCIL IN NORTHERN NEVADA!!!

Congratulations and Welcome to "Saint Robert Bellarmine Council 13897"
St. Robert Bellarmine Parish in Fernley, Nevada.
Instituted by District Deputy #1, SK and Brother Chuck Baker on Saturday, October 15.

Pastor Robert Chorey

Charter Council Officers for 13897 will be:
Chaplain – Rev Thomas Cronin (retired)
Charter Grand Knight – Brother Robert "Bob" Wallace
Financial Secretary – Willard "Bill" Bushard
Field Agent – Russ Fromherz, FICF

A nomination list of the remaining Charter Officers will be presented at the Council’s 1st Council meeting, Thursday, November 3, 2005.

Council 13897 officially started with 30 members, with a number of transfers and re-admissions to take place in the next couple of weeks.   Congratulations should also go to Brother Bill Bushard, who served as Roundtable coordinator for the last two years. It was Brother Bill’s dedication that kept this Roundtable to Council on track. We shouldn’t forget the Fernley Roundtable’s Host Council, Ponderosa Council 4928 of Holy Cross Parish in Sparks, under the leadership of Grand Knight Paul Matteoni. Others that should be recognized are Former District Deputy, Brother Mike Swedowski, PGK Marvin Cochran, Field Agent Russ Fromherz, and Past NCD Brother Joe Garcia. A bit of history, Brother Joe was Nevada’s New Council Development Chairman in the early 90’s, when then Pastor Father Tony Vercellone (now of Las Vegas) requested the Knights to organize in Fernley. It took a few years for this growing area to be large enough to support a Council. It has now happened!!

Congratulations and welcome notes, letters, cards, or e-mails can be sent to:

Knights of Columbus Council 13897
C/O Robert "Bob" Wallace
758 Tamsen Rd Fernley, NV 89408

e-mail: rrsur@Juno.com

As most Grand Knights and Council officers know, it takes money to operate a Council. A new council doesn't have any money in the bank, except for a $200 gift from Supreme. As a new Council, a gift of money and/or items can always be used. Please consider this Nevada Tradition for new councils, at your next Council business meeting.

Fraternally Yours;

SK and Brother Russell Fromherz, FICF-PGK

One of the easiest ways to acknowledge the efforts of your brother knights and show your appreciation is to remember to transmit the names of the Family of the Month to The Supreme Council. Families are recognized and are eligible to receive a statue from the monthly drawing.

We continue to pray for all the victims of Katrina.

I am doing articles for Knightline and Columbia and K of C State, District
and Local councils involved in relief efforts. Please forward any info you
have, including fund-raisers and councils housing evacuees. I  am
especially interested in direct aid efforts in the area of the disaster,
including Knights who have gone into disaster area either as citizens or
professional emergency personnel (cops, firemen, EMT, etc.)

We are looking to highlight both the heroism and charity of Knights, who
have always responded to their brothers and neighbors in need.

deadline for my Knightline story is Friday, Sept. 9, so a quick response is
requested.

Thank you very much.

Knights of Columbus makes unprecedented $2.5 million commitment to Katrina relief.
Supreme Council will match contributions in excess of $2.5 million made within 60 days.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Knights of Columbus Supreme Council has announced
the largest disaster relief effort in its history. The Order has pledged a
minimum of $2.5 million in financial assistance and will match any funds
beyond that donated to the Knights of Columbus Katrina Relief Fund over the
next 60 days.

Of that money, $250,000 will be immediately distributed to Catholic
Charities in affected areas, and $1.25 million will be used in the
immediate future to assist those displaced and made indefinitely homeless.
An additional $1 million will be set aside and used to rebuild the
estimated 130 Catholic schools destroyed or seriously damaged by the storm
and its aftermath.

“We are asking all of our councils and assemblies in the U.S. and
Canada to become active in this relief effort within 60 days either through
cash donations or volunteer efforts,” said Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson.
“We are also asking our members to support the collection appeal of the
United States Council of Catholic Bishops, and are looking into the
possibility of establishing a job bank for those displaced.”

Many Knights of Columbus in local councils near the affected areas
are volunteering their homes, council halls, and personal time and supplies
to those affected. These efforts, local and national, will expand in the
days ahead. Members of the Order in the US and Canada, and the general
public are asked to donate to this effort.

Donors in the United States should make checks payable to Knights of
Columbus Charities USA, Inc. and send them to: Knights of Columbus
Charities USA, Inc., Gift Processing Center, PO BOX 9028, Pittsfield, MA
01202-9028 Attn: Hurricane KATRINA Relief.

Donors in Canada should make checks payable to Knights of Columbus
Canada Charities, Inc., and send them to: Knights of Columbus Canada
Charities, Inc., Gift Processing Center, PO BOX 7252 Station A, Toronto,
ON, M5W 1X9  Attn: Hurricane KATRINA Relief.

One hundred percent of contributions will go directly to hurricane
relief, and all donations to Knights of Columbus Charities are
tax-deductible (tax creditable in Canada).

The Knights have nearly 50,000 members in Louisiana, Alabama and
Mississippi. Of those about one-third have life insurance through the
Order.

The Knights of Columbus – one of the country’s ten largest providers
of life insurance with more than $54 billion in force – has also announced
that it will be suspending lapses of policies and premium notices in
FEMA-designated disaster areas for at least 60 days.

The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic lay
organization with more than 1.7 million members in nearly 13,000 councils
worldwide. Last year, the Knights donated more than $135 million and more
than 63 million hours of service to charity.
