Help Needed, debris to be removed from Our Lady of Wisdom

Brother Knights,

On Monday, June 26, 2006, debris is to be removed from Our Lady of Wisdom between 10:00am and 12:00noon.  Father Vivona needs all the help he can get with this work, as the quicker the debris is removed the quicker the hall can be rebuilt.  Additionally, this will help the insurance proceeds stretch further as there is not enough money to cover all the loss.

Our Lady of Wisdom is at the corner of O”Bannon and Lindell.

Robert K. Dorsey, PGK Council 5693

Memo: Update; Fire at Our Lady of Wisdom Church

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE     23 June 2006

Re: Update; Fire at Our Lady of Wisdom Church

Dear Brother Knights and Ladies,

State Deputy Wayne Bieniasz visited with Father Francis today (6/23/06) at Our Lady of Wisdom. The fire investigator has reported $400,000 in damage to the Church and the interior.  At this time the insurance company has a contractor to remove the interior walls and the kitchen equipment.

Therefore; there is no need for manpower at this time!

Father Francis wants to thank the Knights for any financial help that is forthcoming.

Vivat Jesus!

Fire Relief Fund for Our Lady of Wisdom Church in Las Vegas

Worthy State Officers, General Agents, District Deputies, Field Agents, Grand Knights, Faithful Navigators, Brother Knights and Ladies;

State Deputy Wayne Bieniasz has announced today (6/21/06,) that the Nevada State Council is establishing a Fire Relief Fund by Brother Knights and their Families for Our Lady of Wisdom Church in Las Vegas.  The Relief Fund will be generated from Brother Knights, their Families, Councils and Assemblies in Nevada.  Then distributed by the Nevada State Council as a corporate body to Our Lady of Wisdom Church.  Receipts will be issued by the State Council for any donation forwarded to them.

Over the weekend there was a fire at Our Lady of Wisdom Church causing considerable damage to the interior of the Church.  The Fire Department was able to put out the fire and hold the damage to the interior.   Needless to say many of the Icon’s were damaged including Fathers Vestments, the kitchen area and the office.  State Deputy Bieniasz was at the Church with Father and the only area not to receive any fire damage was the Altar/Sanctuary where the Eucharistic was on the Altar.  This should serve as a strong sign of Our Lords Present on the Altar.

Father Vivona is our State Chaplin and he now needs our help as Knights of Columbus to repair the damage to his Church as insurance will not cover all the expenses.  Father will also need our help with Manpower when a plan is formulated to remove the damage items in the Church.

HOW TO CONTRIBUTE
Councils, Assembles, and Individual Donors should make their checks payable to:
Knights of Columbus Nevada State Council.
(indicate Our Lady of Wisdom Fire Relief) and send them to:

MEMO: STATE MEMBERSHIP

Re: State membership, need 74 new members to reach goal of 5000.

Worthy State Officers, District Deputies, Grand Knights, and Brother Knights,

I received a call from our Regional Program Consultant Frank Pulice PSD, FSD, with the most recent information on the State membership numbers.  He stated at our Convention that we had 4946 brother knights and needed 54 new members to reach 5000.  As of June 1st we have 4926 and now need 74 new members to reach 5000.

District Deputies and Grand Knights, I ask that you go to your councils and request for everyone’s help in our effort to reach the goal of 5000 members.  Here are some ways to help; Plan a 1st Degree, Promote 1 on 1 recruiting, Have one more Recruitment Blitz, Give a phone Call to Prospects that have signed a form 100 or prospect card from past recruiting efforts, etc.

Membership is the lifeblood of our order, so it is significant that as Brother Knights we make one more dedicated effort to reach the goal of 5000 members in the State.  We need to bring in as many new members with as many 1st degree ceremonials as possible.

Fraternally,   Wayne Bieniasz, SD.

This is a reminder that Fallon Council 4828 will be sponsoring our bi-monthly Living Rosary prayer service at 9:00 AM on Saturday (3 June) at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fallon.  We invite all Br. South Dakota abortion law “based on solid foundation of modern medical science”
(Supreme Knight praises legislature for acting to defend innocent human life)

Supreme Office News Release
Contact: Patrick Korten (203) 752-4474 or Andrew Walther (203) 752-4253

For Immediate Release: February 27, 2006

(NEW HAVEN, CT) — The South Dakota legislature, which approved a “Women’s Health and Human Life Protection Act” by wide margins last week, “has done the entire nation a tremendous service,” Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson declared today. “In carefully assembling the most current science in the field of molecular biology, they have blown a hole in the weakest and most disingenuous underpinning of Roe v. Wade – the notion that the question of when human life begins could not be answered.”

In March 2005 the legislature voted to establish a South Dakota Task Force to Study Abortion, which received testimony from dozens of medical experts, abortion providers, women who have had abortions, crisis pregnancy counselors, government officials and legal experts. Leading scientists described in detail tremendous advances in technology over the past two decades, including new techniques that enable scientists to “observe human existence and development at a molecular level,” which were not available when Roe was decided in 1973.

In December 2005, the Task Force found that “abortion terminates the life of a unique, whole, living human being,” and that “the physician performing an abortion terminates the life of one of the physician’s patients to whom the physician owes a professional and legal duty.” The statute (HB 1215) approved by the State Senate (23-12) and State House (50-18) accepts the Task Force findings, and declares that “under the Constitution of South Dakota, a pregnant mother and her unborn child each possess a natural and inalienable right to life.”

Anderson praised the work of the South Dakota legislature, and said that its legislation “is based on a solid foundation of modern medical science. Thirty-three years after Roe, it is no longer possible for any court to assert that medical science does not know when life begins, or whether a fetus is in fact a separate and distinct human being. The abortion license now rests solely on legal precedents built on a crumbling foundation.”

The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest lay Catholic organization, with 1.7 million members. It has been among the most active pro-life groups for more than three decades.

SPONSORED BY: HOLY APOSTLE, COUNCIL #12543

OFFICIATED BY: REV. JOHN McSHANE, ST. JAMES THE APOSTLE CHURCH

Rev. John McShane, Grand Knight Ray Gardea and Curly Iniquez, PSD, and State Chairman of the Nevada Fr. McGivney Guild, invite all Councils, their members, and families to a Vigil Prayer Service for the canonization of Fr. Michael J. McGivney. We have all witnessed at one time or another how powerful prayer can be, so please join your Brother Knights at this fraternal event to honor the FOUNDER OF THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS and pray for his canonization.     Our Supreme Knight, Carl A. Anderson, reports that the International goal of over 100,000 Guild members has been met. If you are not a member of the Guild, the month of March will be a meaningful time to enroll yourself, your family and members of your Parish. Increased membership in the Guild will definitely help the canonization process.

After the Vigil Prayer Service, join your Brother Knights, family and friends for refreshments.

Please RSVP BEFORE March 6, 2005 to:

The 2006 Law Enforcement Torch Run Kick off campaign is off and running. This year round grassroots program provides much needed funding and public awareness for Special Olympics Nevada. The Law Enforcement Torch Run is a grassroots fundraising and public awareness campaign organized by the Law Enforcement Community for Special Olympics Nevada. The year round campaign includes tip-a-cops, t-shirts sales, a Truck Convoy and many other fundraising events. In 2005, the Law Enforcement Torch Run campaign raised over $165,000.00.

In February, Law Enforcement personnel will start their 2006 campaign by hosting Tip-a-Cops™ at Applebee's Restaurants throughout Nevada. Please join us on February 8th at an Applebee's near you and have Law Enforcement personnel "wait" on you. In May, Law Enforcement personnel and Krispy Kreme will partner together for one weekend to raise funds with "Kops on Doughnut Shops". Officers will camp on top of Krispy Kreme stores in Las Vegas and Reno for one weekend while money is raised to "bail them off".

Living Rosary Prayer Service Saturday, 4 February

Brother Knights,

This is a reminder that Council 4828 will be sponsoring a Living Rosary Prayer Service this Saturday, 4 February, at 9:00 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fallon.  We invite all Br. Knights and their families from Northern Nevada, as well as other pro-life people to come and participate.

If you live closer to Reno, or are going to be in the Reno area, then please plan to attend the Living Rosary services that are typically held over there at the same time (across from the abortion center near Meadowwood Mall.)  It doesn't matter where you attend these services, the most important thing is that we get as many people as possible to join in prayer for an end to abortion and for the protection of life at all stages, so please help spread the word about both the Reno and Fallon services to all of our fellow Br. Knights and to our fellow parishioners.

Jim Shurtliff
Financial Secretary
Fallon Council 4828

NOTE:  Council 4828 sponsors Living Rosary Prayer Services on the 1st Saturdays of each month at 9:00 a.m. and on the 3rd Wednesdays of each month, typically at 7:00 p.m., just before our regular business meeting.  Our next prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM on 15 February.  Everyone is invited.
