Web-Site to mark the Year for Priests Celebration

The US Bishops' Secretariat for Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations has set up a Web Site to mark the Year for Priests, to be celebrated June 19, 2009 to June 19, 2010 throughout the world. Pope Benedict XVI has designated the year long celebration to begin on the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a day of prayer for the sanctification of all priests. The pope also has designated St. John Vianney as the Universal Patron of All Priests on the occasion of the 150th Anniversary of the saint's death. The saint, who also is known as the Cure of Ars, is the patron of parish priests.

The Year for priests Website can be found at:
http://www.usccb.org/yearforpriests/index.shtml

Elements of the site include Pope Benedict's message for the occasion and the announcement the plenary indulgence in both English and Spanish in conjunction with the celebration. Additional elements include prayers that have been commissioned for both priests and laity. During the year, the Secretariat will provide monthly articles by prominent Catholic women who will write about their faith and trust in the priesthood.

March Madness membership contest

Worthy Brothers,

It is official! Nevada won the $1,000 prize for membership recruitment during the months of March, April and May. I have attached the notification and results from the Supreme Website.

It was not I that won this contest but you and all of your efforts. The $1,000 is to be used for membership only but still it relieves our general fund budget of a lot of expenses.

Thank each and everyone of you for all the hard work. We still have a way to go. As of today we still need 28 new members between now and June 30 to make the membership gross intake quota. Don't stop keep up your good work and help us get over the top!

TEXT FROM PRESENTATION
Good morning.  My name is John Wainscott.  I am a member of the Board of Directors of the Knights of Columbus and am honored to be here today to present an award to a very special man well known here at St. Peters.   Will Past State Deputy and Former Master Frank J. Becker and his daughter Rita please come forward.     In January 2002 President Bush called upon all Americans to provide service to others at home or abroad. In his speech founding the Points of Light Foundation, the first volunteer organization he mentioned was the Knights of Columbus.    President Bush was asking for more volunteers but was also bringing to light what many individuals have done through their lives to assist others in need in many countless ways.   President Bush stated that Americans continue to serve and are a part of the building of momentum of millions of acts of kindness and decency that are changing America, one heart and one soul at a time.   Frank, your actions have contributed in a large way to making your Church and community better places while in Utah and in Nevada.  I could go on and on about the many instances of your commitment and generosity in assisting others in need.   So Frank – on behalf of The President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation, The Board of Directors of the Knights of Columbus, The Fourth Degree Assemblies in Utah, and your brother Knights here at St. Peters, I present to you the highest award you can receive from the Points of Light Foundation, the Lifetime Achievement award.

Frank (center) received the Award, a letter from the Council on Service and Civic Participation, a Letter from President Bush, and a recognition pin.

Pope on YouTube

Worthy Brothers, FYI

The Vatican is launching its own YouTube channel to engage more with the digital generation and better control Pope Benedict XVI's online image.

Officials from Vatican Television and Google announced the channel Friday.

Monsignor Claudio Maria Celli, who heads the Vatican's social communications office, said the pope explicitly approved of the channel. He said Benedict was "a man of dialogue" who wanted to engage with people wherever they are.

Celli said the Vatican is launching the channel in part to have some control over the pontiff's image, which he said is already being used on sites respectful of the papacy and not.

The Vatican plans to update the site daily, with its messages available in Italian, German, English and Spanish.

Anderson addressed the Sixth World Meeting of Families here today, offering an analysis of "Family and Solidarity," drawing upon the teachings of Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI. Hello All:

Happy New Year from Military Knights in Action. I hope all our readers had a wonderful Christmas and are looking forward to 2009.

As the new year begins, I have some exciting plans for the newsletter. Several articles have come to my attention that should carry us into the next few months. Starting with this month, we have a piece from Sam LaGrone at the Air Force Times.

I have also heard that a new round table has been launched in Afghanistan by a council in Canada. I'd love to hear more about their activities, so if any readers have information about this initiative, please send the material my way.

Thanks again for reading and stay safe.
