State
soccer challenge winners
To:
State Deputy James Kelly, Worthy State Officers and
Brother Knights
From: Raymond Brewer, State Youth Director
Re: State soccer challenge results
We had an increase in participation again this fall for
the state Soccer Challenge, which is a true testament to
the brother knights we have in our state and their
dedication to the children of their parish.
Our numbers, however, could have been better. We still
had a high percentage of councils who failed to recognize
this event.
Here is a list of the winners. Medals will be ordered and
delivered to Grand Knights for presentation during mass
or CCD.
I would like to personally that Dave Ryan in the Las
Vegas area for his efforts in this project. Dave did
everything from booking a facility, setting up the nets
and cooking hot dogs for participants. Dave is our State
Advocate and it is refreshing to see a state officer show
this much interest in youth activities.
Also, thanks to Harry Rhea and the brothers in Ely. Year
in and year out, these brothers have the highest numbers
of participants.
Please keep our children in your prayers. They are our
future Knights.

MEMO: STATE
WIDE NOTICE : STATE OFFICE CHANGES AS OF 1 Oct. 2009
My
Brother Knights,
It is with deep regret that I have accepted the
resignation of the Worthy State Secretary John
ORourke. Brother John has served the order in many
positions over the years. He is a faithful member of the
Fourth Degree. Brother John has been the state warden,
state advocate, state treasure and has been the secretary
for the past three years. In addition John is an active
participant in degree ceremonials and his home council,
11029. He notified me on Saturday, September 12th that
due to extenuating circumstances, my priorities
have and need to change
I cannot in good conscience
devote the necessary time to the State Secretarys
position.
Brother John is a class act, he has taken it upon himself
saying, It would be unfair to you and to the other
state officers for me to continue. John has always
placed the order above self and he will be deeply missed
as our State Secretary.
In order to insure continuity of the state council I have
offered the position to each of the state council members
by sonority of position, neither the state treasure or
state advocate could accept the position at this time for
numerous reason. Our Worthy State Warden has accepted and
will be as of October 1, 2009 the State Secretary.
In order to fill the position of State Warden I have
contacted the District Deputies in order of service.
Worthy District Deputy of District 10, Brother David
Briggs has agreed to accept the position and will be the
state warden effective October 1, 2009. He will continue
to be DD for District 10 for the remainder of the
fraternal year.
I extend all of my and the other state officers best
wishes to Brother John in both his personal and order
future. I extend a hardy welcome to Brothers Pat and
David as they embark on their new duties.
In Christ,
James Jim Kelly
State Deputy

ACTION
ALERT - Health Care Reform Bill
From the 127th Supreme Convention
Contact Congress -
Health Care Reform
will Subsidize Abortion
The U.S. House and Senate
are expected to vote after Labor Day on health care
reform legislation that could result in the largest
expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade.
In July, committees in both the House and the Senate
approved bills that would result in the federal funding
of abortion on a massive scale. The committees rejected
amendments that would have prevented federal funding of
abortion.
The House and Senate will be on recess during the month
of August, and Senators and Congressmen will be in their
home districts taking the public's pulse on health care
reform.
August could be the most important month in the history
of the pro-life cause.
This August, every Knight of Columbus should urge his
representatives in Congress to oppose any health care
legislation unless specific amendments are added to
prohibit abortion subsidies. Therefore, members of the
House should be asked to support the Stupak Amendment.
Members of the Senate should be asked to support the
Hatch Amendment. All lawmakers should be asked to OPPOSE
the health care legislation unless these amendments are
added.
We urge you to:
