6/26/08 Please continue to keep my brother Dennis in your
prayers. He came through the surgery and was
doing fine and we thought he would be home this week-end
but he went code blue this morning (6/26/08). After
a lot of work by the doctors and staff he was back with
us and is back into ICU. He will be going back into
surgery tomorrow afternoon. Received
6/22/08 DR. PAUL WAINSCOTT, 83, passed away
after a battle with cancer June 20, 2008, in
Henderson. Paul was born Aug. 28, 1924, in La
Porte, Ind. He served in the US Army in the
Philippines in 1943 and was wounded in action multiple
times and received a Purple Heart and 2 Bronze
Stars. Paul married Gloria Terrien Sept. 19, 1946,
in Menasha, Wis. He graduated from Lawrence College
in Appleton, Wis., received a master's degree from
Indiana University in Bloomington in anatomy, and a
medical degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee,
Wis. In 1955 Paul set up a family practice in
Menasha, Wis., and became a huge Green Bay Packer
fan. He served as president of the Winnebago County
Medical Society and as president of the Wisconsin Academy
of Family Physicians. In 1973, Paul and family left
Wisconsin so he could begin a new career teaching family
practice in a residency program for the University of
Arizona in Tucson. He then directed and received
accreditation for the family practice program at Texas
Tech University in El Paso. Paul returned to
private family practice in 1979 in Henderson. In
1988, Paul retired from family practice. He was
hired by St. Rose de Lima Hospital as director of Medical
Staff Affairs. Paul then worked for the Joint
Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations
for five years traveling all over the country. In
1997, Paul retired again and served on the Board of
Directors at the Henderson Senior Center. Paul had
a smile on his face and a 'hello' for everyone he met or
even passed by on the street. His life was about
helping others. That showed in his making house
calls as a physician, getting library books to shut-ins,
and even staying with his unit in the war until he was
wounded for the 3rd time. The awesome memories of
Daddy-O and Pops, will continue forever in our
hearts. He is survived by his wife, Gloria; six
children, Kathryn (Frank) Dieveney in Denver, John
(Linda) in Salt Lake City, Michael in Dallas, Thomas
(Laura) in Olive Branch, Miss., Peter in Austin, Texas,
and Patrick in Henderson; 11 grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren. Received
6/22/08 JAMES ELWIN POMEROY, 84 years old and
resident of Las Vegas for over 45 years, passed away June
2, 2008, after a lengthy illness. He was the last
of eight children born to William Albert and Belle
Pomeroy of Daingerfield, Texas. He joined the U.S.
Navy at age 17 and was one of the last surviving Pearl
Harbor veterans of World War II. He served aboard
the Lexington, the Saratoga and the Enterprise carriers
and was the youngest first class petty officer in the
regular U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war
ended, James eventually settled into a job working for
the Nevada State Highway Department. He retired
after 30 years of service with the Highway Department and
then spent 10 years working for various oil companies as
a technical specialist in materials for highways.
James Pomeroy moved from Carson City, to Las Vegas in
1962. He was a member of the Catholic church and a
parishioner at Saint Christopher's Catholic Church for
over 30 years. He was an active member of the
Knights of Columbus achieving the rank of 4th Degree
Knight, and was a Past Grand Knight. He married
Betty Miller Bates in June of 1969. His beloved
wife died in July of 2003. James is survived by
three children, Beverley Pomeroy Ledet, Dr. James Larry
Pomeroy and Jackie Louise Pomeroy White; and stepson,
Gary Bates; as well as 14 grandchildren and 22 great
grandchildren. Received
6/21/08 Word was received from the son of James Pomeroy, PGK
of Council 5448, whom passed away last Monday, June
16th. There will be a Rosary at Palm"s
Mortuary on N. Main St at 6 P.M., on Monday June 23rd and
the Funeral Mass will be held at St. Christopher's
Catholic Church on Tues., June 23 at 11 A.M. Received
6/21/08 Prayers are requested for the repose of the soul of Dr. Paul Wainscott a fourth degree knight and father of Supreme Director John Wainscott and the father of District Deputy Patrick Wainscott. He died yesterday June 20, 2008 in Las Vegas. Arrangements for his funeral are pending and a notice will be forth coming when they are known. Received

to Hays Kansas at about 6:00 this a.m. on Monday

5/22/08 Brother Knights and Ladies, Prayers are
requested for the speedy recovery of Robert
"Bob" Czarnik, a Charter Member of St. Francis
of Assisi Council 13456 in Henderson. Bob is
currently in St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, WI with a
serious staph infection. The prognosis is good, as
Bob is responding to the antibiotics.
Bob was very active as an Officer and in all our Council
activities before moving to Wisconsin, and remains active
in his current Council. Received
5/22/08 Brother Knights, Mesquite Council #13754
requests your prayers for Marge Hafner, wife of Brother
Fred Hafner. She has been evacuated to a Las Vegas
Hospital for critical tests for an infection. We
pray that it is something that can be quickly cured and
that she will recover and be sent back home to be with
her many friends and family. Received
5/19/08 S.K. Louis Tabat is in Summerlin Hospital. Lou is a
retired constable of North Las Vegas and also a retired
professional boxing referee. He is recovering from colon

5/18/08 I went to visit S.K. Anthony Donofrio in Summerlin
Hospital today. He has recovered greatly from his
double by-pass heart surgery. He will probably be
going home on Monday, May 19, 2008. Anthony
Donofrio is a PGK of St. Joseph H.O.M. Council 10442 in

5/17/08 Pete Lowy, Past Grand Knight of Council 5693 and Past
Faithful Navigator of Assembly 0611 in Las Vegas, had
surgery for a second spinal fusion last Tuesday. He
suffered complications including a clot which nearly cost
him a leg. He is now home with an IV and heavy
medications. Visits are not suitable at this
time. He needs our prayers. Received
5/17/08 Brother Knights and Ladies, Maria Henson was
admitted to Desert Springs Hospital this morning for
kidney complications, but is now in stable
conditions. She still need our prayers, and hope
she will return home in a few days. Maria is

of Margaret Miller, mother-in-law of Brother Gerry

passing of my father, James Lynch. After a lengthy
illness he passed away this week. His
funeral will be held at Our Lady of the Valley Church in
Pahrump on May 17th at 10:30 am. He will then be

his recovery from a Broken Neck. Your prayers

him in his long recovery. He was helping

broken back. This happened at least a month ago and
he is still having trouble. He again

5/06/08 Brother Knights and Ladies, A short update on
my status. I have been disqualified from heart
surgery due to the strokes I have had and the pulmonary
hypertension. The surgeon wants to rule out any
other possible alternatives first, including a new
medicine regimen. In the meantime, I am on very
limited activity. Anything seems to cause problems.

5/05/08 FM Tony Perrella has a tumor on his leg about the size of a baseball, do not know as yet if it is Malignant, a biopsy is being scheduled. There is also a spot on his left lung and it is not known if this is part of the problem with his leg. Needless to say this is serious and worrisome. Keep him in your prayer chain for a quick and complete recovery once it is diagnosed.

Saturday afternoon, the 26th day of April. Received

beautiful mother, Margarita Iniquez. She passed
away in her sleep at about 3 a.m. this morning in
Chicago. She was 103 years old. Irene and I will

4/16/08 Br. Knights, I want to thank everyone
for their prayers during my father-in-law Vincent
Hattrup's recent illness and since his passing on 8
April. I just got back from his funeral in Idaho on
Tuesday evening. It was a very nice service and it
was also very well attended by family, friends,
neighbors, and local residents. Besides my
mother-in-law, all nine of their children (and their
spouses), all but two of their 27 grandchildren, and one
of their two great-grandchildren were present for
the services, as were Vince's brother and both of his
sisters, and several brother- and sister-in-laws, nieces,
nephews, etc. Received
4/14/08 Worthy Brothers, I've just gotten off the phone
with PSD and SK Frank Holzauer, and he is doing very
well. He told me that what caused the bleeding is
something that can happen to men after the age of 50, and
his Doctor told him that in most cases the source of the
bleeding will heal itself, which is apparently why they
couldn't find the source with him. Received

4/08/08 Br. Knights, When it rains, it pours . . . On
top of my father-in-law passing away this morning, I just
received a call from my sister to let me know that my
dad, Herb Shurtliff, was admitted to the
hospital in Idaho Falls, ID tonight, due to chest
pains. The blood test that checks for a heart
attack is back and were negative, so they will be
conducting a stress-thallium test tomorrow morning.

soul of my father-in-law, Br. Vincent Hattrup, who passed
away this morning. Vince was a Past Grand Knight
and Honorary Life Member of Council 1389 in Cottonwood,
ID. He would have turned 85 this Friday. He

friends, and by the community of Cottonwood.

Vince was admitted to the hospital on
Friday evening with pneumonia in both lungs, and the
situation was quite serious. Although he is
somewhat improved as of Saturday, he is still not
out of the woods. His white blood cell count is low
and he is also having congestive heart problems and
problems with his liver. Vince will be 85 on
Friday, so his age is also a factor. Received

eternal reward earlier today. Walter is the father of

Swenson, who passed on to his eternal reward earlier this

informed that one of our former Brother Knights, Br.
Lewis E. Sullivan, passed away on Saturday, 29
March. Br. Lew was initiated into the Order through
Council 4828 in November, 1991 and completed his 2nd
and 3rd Degrees in March of 1992. He was an active
member of Council 4828 until the October, 2007, when
he transferred to Council 13765 in Chico,
CA. No funeral service information is available at

3/18/08 Dear Brothers: Our Brother Bill Grant of
Council 10442 in Las Vegas, has been diagnosed with
esophageal cancer. He will have the tumor removed, but
the prognosis is not good. As with many other
cancers. Prayers to St. Peregrine are much appriciated.
Bill has been a Knight since 1994 and has devoted much
time to our pancake breakfasts and other affairs. Please

Vegas. Tom has been admitted to Hospital on
Monday, and is now in the Intensive Care Unit. He
has Pneumonia in left lung, his Kidneys are not working,
and his Oxygen level is declining. Fr. Bill Kenny

5448 in North Las Vegas. Brother Ham underwent
heart by-pass surgery last week at UMC and GK Brother
Mickey Perez is scheduled to undergo same operation
today, 29 Jan 08 at Mountain View Hospital. Received

Jerry had open heart surgery in the early part of
January. The operation went well, but there have
been a few complications causing a brief return to the
hospital earlier this week. He is recovering at
home now. Received
1/28/08 The members of St. Francis of Assisi Council 13456 in
Henderson, request your prayers for Alberta Guyet, wife
of Brother Knight Al Guyet. Alberta has been ill
for the last six weeks, and would appreciate your
prayers. Thank you. Received
1/22/08 Brother Knights and Ladies, A Memorial Mass for
the repose of the soul of Sir Knight and Brother Knight
Robert W. Porter will be held on Friday January 25, 2008
beginning at 10:00am in the St. Peter the Apostle Roman
Catholic Church, located at 204 S. Boulder Highway in
Henderson, Nevada. Received
1/21/08 Brother Knights, The reception
in honor of Sir Knight Wallace Mashburn will be
held in the Falcon Ridge Hotel, above Wal-Mart, 1030 W
Pioneer Blvd, Mesquite, NV upon completion of the Funeral
Services at the Mesquite Cemetery, Approximately 12:30PM
to 2:00PM. Everyone is invited. Should have plenty
of food prepared by the many friends of the Mashburn
Family. Received
1/19/08 Brother Knights and Ladies, It is
with great sadness that the Brother Knights and
families of Rosary Council 3741 in Henderson, inform you
that our Brother Knight Robert Porter passed on to his
eternal reward on January 19, 2008 at 6:10 P.M. at
the Odyssey Hospice in Las Vegas. The Brother Knights and
families of Rosary Council 3741 request your prayers for
the repose of the soul of a truly exemplary
member of the Knights of Columbus. Also, please pray for
Brother Bob's wife Jan and the Porter family at this
especially difficult time. Received
1/19/08 Brother Knights, Your Brother Knights' from
Mesquite Council #13754 request your prayers for the
demise of our beloved Sir Knight Wallace K. Mashburn that
departed our midst on January 17, 2008. Brother
Wallace has been in the hospital since August 4, 2007 and
we certainly appreciate your most kind prayers and
visits. Received
1/15/08 The mother of our Financial Secretary, John Privitera
of Council 10442 in Las Vegas, is very ill with colon
cancer. Her illness is advanced and the prognosis
is not good. John has returned to Buffalo, NY to be
with her. Received
1/15/08 Brother Knights and Ladies, GK Jerry
Fransen of Council 10442 in Las Vegas is home from the
hospital after open heart surgery and is recovering
well. Received
1/14/08 Brother Knights, Jim Kelly, current State
Advocate, underwent surgery at St. Mary's hospital in
Reno for a long standing back problem on Friday, January
11. He is now at home, recovering very well, and
feels much better. He is facing about a month to
recover, and we pray he will be stronger than ever.

1/13/08 Br. Knights, Fallon Council 4828 was recently
informed that one of our Br. Knights, Carl F. Hipsley,
passed away this summer, on 18 July. Although Br.
Hipsley was an Honorary Life member of the Fallon
Council, he had been living in the Gardnerville area for
the past several years, so we were unaware of
his death until we recently received a note from his
daughter, informing us of his passing. Received
1/11/08 Members of St. Francis of Assisi Council 13456 request
your prayers for the repose of the soul of Kay De Bourg,
wife of Brother Randy De Bourg of this Council. Kay
passed away on January 11th after a prolonged
illness. Received
1/11/08 Please keep in your prayer the family of Sgt David
Drakulich, who was killed in action in Afghanistan
on Wednesday, January 9. (Not in Iraq as reported
by some news media.) David was a member of the
82nd Air Borne. Received
1/08/08 Brother Knights and Ladies, Received
1/08/08 Fr. Joseph O' Callahan Assembly # 2820 is making
a prayer request for our Brother, Sir Knight Jerry
Fransen. Brother Fransen is Grand Knight of Council #
10442 at St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Roman Catholic
Church, and is having a Triple bi-pass cardiac operation
today- Please offer up your prayers for a speedy
recovery. A Rosary would be nice or two would be
better. Bother Fransen is a true friend of our
assembly. Received
1/07/08 Our Grand Knight, Gerald Fransen, of Council 10442 in
Las Vegas, will be having open-heart surgery on Tuesday
January 8th. Received
1/07/08 Brother Knights and Ladies, I was just
informed today (1/06/08) that Dave Moffitt of Council
12845 in Gardnerville is in critical condition after
having several heart attacks yesterday. He is at
the Carson Tahoe Hospital, but you are asked not to
contact him or his family until further notice. He
is not allowed phone calls or visitors at this time, so
we are asking that everyone please put Dave in their
prayers. Received
1/07/08 Brother Knights and Ladies, Brother Robert
Porter, Treasurer of Rosary Council 3741,
is currently in intensive care for Cancer at
St. Rose Hospital off Boulder Highway in Henderson.
The Brother Knights and Families of Rosary
Council 3741 request that you please continue to pray for
Brother Bob, his wife Jan and the Porter family. Received
1/06/08 Brothers; Just received word this morning that
Grand Knight Rudy Forster of Fernley Council 13897 had a
heart attack on December 29. I talked to Brother
Rudy's bride Dorothy this morning, she said after 3
stints and rest in the hospital, Brother Rudy is now home
resting. Received
1/03/08 Brother Knights and Ladies, Brother Robert
Porter, Treasurer of Rosary Council No. 3741 in
Henderson, Nevada, is currently at St. Rose Hospital off
Boulder Highway in Henderson after being diagnosed
with Cancer.
