Update on SK Tony Donofrio

From Sir Knight Tony Donofrio, Financial Secretary of St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Council 10442, and member of Lambe Assembly 611 who had the medical procedure on Wednesday December 16th:

Brothers: Thanks for all of your prayers, calls and cards. My procedure went well. The surgeon found the specific area inside the walls of my heart that was causing my rapid and irregular heart beat. They cleared away the cells from that area and the insertion of a Defibrillator was not necesary. The surgeon said that I should not have any more problems. Again thanks for the power of prayer! Amen!

Prayers Requested for Rose Zicarelli

Hello friends and family,

Mom, Rose Zicarelli, had some very severe abdominal pains last night, Friday Dec 4th. We took her via 911 to St Mary's-Reno to the ER. Tests showed a leakage in her abdomen and surgery was called for. We had Fr Art, the on call Catholic Priest, come and give her the Blessed Sacrament of Anointing (and what a wonderful experience it was with Fr Art).

The doctors were not sure Mom would make it thru the major surgery, but she did. They found a hole/ulcer in her stomach and fixed it up. She then went into ICU.

Mom is awake now and somewhat alert, but on a ventilator, her kidney's are not working well, she has an enlarger heart and other medical issues. She is also a DNR patient for advanced resusitation. We'll be headed back to the ICU tomorrow, Sunday.

May our loving God always be with us . . . .

Please Pray for Dominic and Clare Casbarro

Brother Knights,

My parents were in a motorcycle accident Saturday evening. My father, Dominic Casbarro, suffered several fractured ribs, but is doing very well. My mother, Clare Casbarro, broke both bones in her left leg and fractured her right arm. She went in for surgery Sunday morning for her leg and everything went great. She is scheduled for surgery on her arm sometimg Monday. If you could please keep them in your thoughts and prayers, and pass this along to the other Knights, I would greatly appreciate it! God has done a wonderful job of watching over both my parents the past couple of days, but we could always use another prayer. My dad would have loved to e-mail you himself, but he wanted to get an e-mail out as soon as possible; and since my mom is his main concern at the moment, he will be spending most his time at the hospital by her side. I am told it will take about six to eight weeks for my father to recover his injuries, and my mom is looking at about six to ten weeks before she is able to get up and move around. Although, the next couple of months will be a challenge, we are so thankful they are alive. Please keep both of them in your thoughts!

Thank you so much,
Michelle Casbarro

Obituary / Excerpt from Nevada Appeal, Published September 10, 2009

Arthur E. Reid passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday morning, September 4, 2009, in Carson City. Art was born in Los Angeles, Calif., on July 24, 1940. He earned his associate degree at Harbor College and moved his family to Carson City in 1964. He retired as a photo-lab supervisor with the Nevada Department of Transportation after 30 years of service. During that time he also was an avid fan of his children's sporting events. He also volunteered as a ski instructor with the Carson City Junior Ski Program for 20 years. As a self-proclaimed golf-nut he became Mr. Volunteer and has worked PGA tournaments at Pebble Beach as well as the Reno Tahoe Open since its inception in this area. Working the Celebrity Golf Tournament at Lake Tahoe was the highlight of his summer. Volunteering for the Hot August Nights celebration every year has long been one of Art's favorite venues.

As a Catholic, Art was very active in the Knights of Columbus Council #4781 and was a past Faithful Navigator and also became a state officer. He was chosen as Carson City's Man of the Year in 1978 for his involvement in community programs involving his childrens sporting and scouting activities. Art's greatest joy in his later life was spending time with his grandchildren in their sporting events.

Traveling has been a passion for Art and Jeanne in their retired years and they have crossed the USA many times. They spent the month of June on the east coast this year and celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on the Oregon coast. Art was an avid photographer and loved spending the winter months in Arizona for the past several years playing golf.

Art is survived by his wife Jeanne; his mother Elizabeth Newby; son Jim Reid (Julie); daughters Christina Harper (Tod) and Kim Miller (Darren); and sister Jean Thornton, all of Carson City; son Kevin Reid (Stacey) of Pomona, Calif.; and his step-family Ron and Kris Munson of Pittsburgh, Pa. He dearly loved and enjoyed his 11 grandchildren.

A private viewing was held for Art's family on Sunday. At his request, no other services will be held, but he hopes you will say a prayer and remember a moment of joy you had with him.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home and Crematory is caring for arrangements.

Update on Brother Sabas De los Santos

TO THE MEMBERS OF THE KOFC;

(AUGUST 21, 2009 11:50 AM.) I JUST SPOKE TO JESSIE DE LOS SANTOS A FEW MINUTES AGO AND I HAVE THE FOLLOWING TO REPORT ON HIS CONDITION: “HE IS HOLDING HIS OWN, HE IS WEAK AND IS BARELY ABLE TO TALK ON THE PHONE TO HIS SISTERS, HE HAS ONLY SPOKEN TO TWO OF THE THREE SISTERS AT THIS TIME AND WILL TALK TO THE THIRD SOON. MATHEW (THEIR YOUNGEST SON) IS THERE NOW. THE OLDEST SON WHO IS A PHYSICIAN IN RENO IS THERE ALSO AND SPENDS UP TO TWO HOURS A DAY WITH HIS DAD.”

I ASKED HER IF SABAS WOULD BE COMING HOME AND SHE TOLD ME “NO” AS THEY REMOVE FLUID FROM HIS ABDOMEN ABOUT EVERY FOUR DAYS AND THE ENVIRONMENT AT HOME IS INSUFFICIENTLY STERILE. SO LETS JUST KEEP SABAS, JESSIE THE TWO SONS AND THE GRANDKIDS IN OUR PRAYERS. I WILL UPDATE A.S.A.P.

Prayers for passing Carol Weber

Carol Weber, mother of Brother Knight William Weber II, of Council 4997 in Reno, passed away Thursday afternoon July 23rd in Naples, FL from respiratory arrest.

Mom had been recovering from brain surgery (had a tumor removed last year), and a couple of months ago while traveling in Washington had a brain stroke. The doctors said it was due to the radiation treatments. Well she had been in and out of the hospital and nursing center the last month while recovery and doing physical therapy. The week before mom had another surgery to remove the fluid pressure in the brain. This was very successful and the recovery was looking great, and then...............? She had remarried about two years ago, and please have Llew Williams in your prayers as well.

UPDATE -- JIM PEASE'S CANCER STATUS!!!!

To All Our Friends and Family:

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you but these last few weeks have not been so easy. First of all the doctor was going by the CAT SCAN, after the biopsy it was determined that the cancer is the same type that has been there all along, however he has a very bad infection that they hope will clear with his new nebulizer, without having to put him on yet another round of antibiotics. His dementia has gotten much worse thus we haven't been able to go to mass because he gets so confused. So as I previously asked keep him in your prayers, he coughs almost constantly which concerns me because he turns beet red.

Thank you again. Pat Pease

Special Prayers Request for Defender of our Country and his Family

Good afternoon everyone …

Kindly accept this request for prayers that are being asked by a close friend of mine, Walter Hinchman, who lives here in Reno. Walter just called with this request on behalf of his brother, whose name is William (Sonny) Francis Hinchman. Sonny was 47 and a retired CWO-5 Army helicopter pilot. Walter said that during the last years of his Army career he was working directly for Gen. Petreus. Since his retirement he’d been flying for the CIA, and it was in this capacity that the chopper he and a fellow officer were in today went down. The other officer has burns over 85% of his body and is also not expect to survive. Walter was just leaving for their family’s home in southern Indiana to be with them and await the remains of Sonny. Walter is obviously deeply distressed and expressed several times how grateful he and his family will be if you’d keep them all in your prayers.

God bless and peace …

Prayers Requested for Caputo Family

I just found out this AM (July 11) that Dotti Caputo went home to be with her husband Tony and our Lord Jesus.

Dotti was an institution in our parish, always active, always doing for others. Several members of our Parish and of our Council would take her to her dialysis treatments. Your Service Brothers was invaluable.

Her late husband, Anthony was a Charter member of St. Andrew Council and of the Rev. Van Skee Fourth Degree Assy. Please keep the Caputo Family in your prayers.

There will be no wake service but a funeral mass will be said at St. Andrews on Wednesday @ 1000. Tony and Dotti were very, very active members of our faith community and will be missed. Our love for them can best be expressed to their family by participating in the mass and lunch.
